rain-all-day:

concrete spires
rise out of weeds
and take the place
of generous shade
it’s called progress
we are told,
modern anonymity
and they flock
at 6am, in metal
death machines
with rocket speed to
press plain buttons until
their fingers bleed
to exit in darkness
like men who stay
underground-
like bees swarming
for honey that
they never taste
